A relatively new technology, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), provides life support for patients with cardiopulmonary failure originating from a multitude of causes. A review of the first five years of this technology's adoption at a teaching hospital in southern Thailand is the subject of this investigation. Retrospectively, data pertaining to ECMO-supported patients treated at Songklanagarind Hospital from 2014 to 2018 were examined. Data originated from both the electronic medical records and the perfusion service database. The parameters under scrutiny encompassed pre-existing conditions and ECMO indications, the specific ECMO type and cannulation technique, complications encountered during and following the procedure, and ultimately, the patients' discharge status. Over the course of five years, a total of 83 patients received ECMO life support, and the number of instances per year increased. The ECMO procedures performed at our institute, categorized into venovenous and venoarterial types, numbered 4934, three of which were employed as part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempts. In light of the preceding data, 57 cases involving cardiac failure were treated with ECMO, along with 26 respiratory-related cases. Treatment was prematurely ceased in 26 cases (313%). Survival rates following ECMO treatment on 83 patients demonstrated 35 (42.2%) overall survivals and 32 (38.6%) cases surviving until discharge. ECMO treatment during therapy consistently normalized serum pH in all instances. In addition, a considerably greater survival rate (577%) was observed among patients who employed ECMO to address respiratory failure, in comparison to those with cardiac issues (298%), showcasing a statistically significant difference (p-value = 0.003). Responsibility, a complex notion, can be categorized into four aspects: responsibility as accountability, responsibility as liability, responsibility as obligation, and responsibility as a virtue. Embryologically rare, fetus-in-fetu (FIF) presents as an encysted fetiform mass within the body of an infant or adult host. Its principal site is the intra-abdominal region. There are conflicting views about the embryo's developmental lineage: is it a highly differentiated teratoma or a parasitic twin stemming from a monozygotic monochorionic diamniotic pregnancy? A crucial distinction between FIF and teratoma lies in the presence of vertebral segments encased within a cyst. Using imaging methods like computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) might allow for an initial diagnosis; however, the diagnosis requires further validation through histopathological evaluation of the surgically removed mass. At our center, a male neonate, delivered via emergency cesarean section at 40 weeks gestation, prompted further investigation due to a suspected intra-abdominal mass detected prenatally. Prenatal ultrasonography at 34 weeks of gestation showed a cystic intra-abdominal mass, 65 centimeters in diameter, with a hyper-reflective focus. The follow-up MRI scan, performed following delivery, highlighted a clearly defined mass with cystic formations in the left abdominal region, exhibiting a centrally located structure that resembled a fetus. The examination showcased the presence of both vertebral bodies and long limb bones. Preoperative imaging studies showcased the characteristic features indicative of FIF, consequently leading to the diagnosis. A substantial encysted mass, filled with fetiform material, was found during the laparotomy scheduled for the sixth day. In the differential diagnosis of neonatal encysted fetiform mass, FIF deserves consideration. This dynamic and constantly improving field of study is always fresh. Mobile communications, social media platforms, and internet access provide avenues for expanding and improving access to health information. An introductory investigation into the published literature sought to explore the rationale and methodologies behind employing social media for acquiring population health information across sectors including disease surveillance, health education, research, behavioral modification, policymaking, professional development, and physician-patient interactions. To find relevant publications, we queried PubMed, NCBI, and Google Scholar, then combined this with 2022 social media usage data from online resources like PWC, Infographics Archive, and Statista. The American Medical Association (AMA)'s policy on professional conduct in social media, the American College of Physicians-Federations of State Medical Boards' (ACP-FSMB) guidelines on online medical professionalism, and HIPAA's restrictions on social media use were briefly scrutinized. Our research indicates the beneficial and adverse consequences of deploying web-based platforms for public health, from an ethical, professional, and social lens. We discovered, during our research, that social media's effect on public health is multifaceted, exhibiting both beneficial and adverse impacts, while attempting to clarify how social networks are aiding in the pursuit of health, an issue that continues to be a source of debate.
